Long before music filled the room, couples exchanged vows, or guests gathered beneath its reclaimed wood ceilings, this building belonged to another Nashville era. Built in 1929, it first operated as the Se-Ling Hosiery Mill, where many people from the surrounding neighborhood came to work each day. Over the decades, it became home to Genesco and later Madison Mill—its brick walls quietly witnessing generations of craftsmanship, ambition, and change.

Eventually, the machines stopped and the building fell silent. When Tamay Ozari purchased the property in 1996 for his restaurant-equipment company, he found a neglected structure filled with pigeons—but also something that could not be recreated: history, character, and possibility. Years later, when potential buyers planned to replace it with apartments, he chose not to sell. Rather than watch a Nashville landmark disappear, he decided to preserve it and return it to the community.

The restoration gave the old factory a new purpose. Its original brick, soaring ceilings, steel-framed windows, and industrial details were carefully brought back to life, and L&L Market opened as a home for local businesses, creativity, and community. The transformation later received a 2020 ULI Nashville Excellence in Development Award.

Today, Ozari Events continues that story. A space once built around production is now built around connection. Where workers once created things with their hands, people now create memories together—weddings begin, ideas are shared, music is heard, milestones are honored, and families open new chapters.

The building was never meant to be forgotten. It was waiting to become something meaningful again.
